Take Up Your Cross

This week’s message is from my friend, Riley Dulaney, who is an Ideal Program legend at Lipscomb and a great track team manager!

In keeping with the theme of guest writers, It’s Riley Dulaney again. I want to thank Jared for giving me another opportunity to write on Monday Motivation again.

These times almost remind me of that first Easter weekend. Imagine if you will: Jesus is the entire front line of the battle against COVID19, and the cross on the hill is COVID19. In Luke 9:32 (ESV) Jesus says, “If anyone would come after me, let him deny himself and take up his cross daily and follow me”. To me, this verse is so true for all the doctors and nurses as well as first responders that have to deny themselves of time with family and friends. Just to keep people with this virus alive. It troubles me nightly to hear that the death toll from COVID19 has risen. One of the reasons I say this is because my brother has a preexisting medical condition. The second is that I had a friend of mine and her father contract the virus. The friend and her Father have since recovered from the virus.

I’m the type of person who needs to stay busy. With my life in Nashville essentially on hold, this virus has forced me to interact with my friends, my church, and my work all online. I’m doing all of this from Raleigh, NC which is where my parents live (and where I currently am). We all just need to be like the people on the front lines of this virus and deny ourselves of what we used to do and who we did it with like me frequenting a place in Nashville called the Corner pub with a friend who graduated from the IDEAL program a year ahead of me. I’m choosing to look on the bright side, that Club sandwich, Cheese Beans (fried cheese balls), and Yazoo beer (Mirco-Brewery in Nashville) will taste better due to delayed gratification.

To learn more about the IDEAL program you can either search for it or go back to the archives from September 2018.

My challenge to you all is to meet each day saying, “No matter how much I want to do x again, I accept that I have to fight this virus by staying home”

Thanks again, Jared.

I appreciate you,

RD
