I’ve been thinking a lot about big pictures, goals, dreams, and visions recently. I’m the kind of guy who likes to think about what awesome things could happen in the future. Naturally, it is always hard for me to turn every dream into reality, I’m not perfect. One question that has been on my mind is, “What would it look like if _____?”
This is one of my ultimate visionary questions. If everything goes great and a certain dream is in front of me, what would that look like? Another way to ask this question is, “What would it take to ___?” This helps me picture what it would take on a daily basis to reach a goal rather than what perks my life would have if I reach a certain point. I like to think of this in different areas of my life.
What would it look like to be the CEO of a company?
What would it look like to release a book?
What would it look like to let God take control of my life?
Letting God take control of my life has been eating at my mind because I don’t know if I am letting God take full control of my life. I know I’m not the only one. I don’t want to think about this idea too much because I know that my life would probably change a good amount if that happened. We are all scared to fully let God take control of our lives because we don’t like giving up control. We want God to intervene, but we want His intervention to work within our guidelines. In the book I mentioned last week, Matthew Kelly says, “God isn’t in the business of tweaking. God is in the business of transformation.” He doesn’t want to tweak your life, He wants to transform it.
What would it look like for God to take control of your job, career path, or financial situation?
You have a picture of what each situation would look like. You have an idea what it would look like to ____. You can see the daily steps taken to reach that lifestyle, career, or personality change. What would it take to reach that? Take a small step towards those dreams today. If you want to be an author, then build time into your schedule to write on a frequent basis. If you want to be comfortable with failure, then give yourself situations to fail instead of succeed. If you want to live a life of service, then find a place to serve this week. If you want to live with God in control of your life, then relinquish some control to Him today.
