2-26-18 Surround Yourself With Support

You can’t do everything on your own. You didn’t make it where you are today without the help of those around you.

Surround yourself with people who will support you.

I would not be the person I am without the support of my family, friends, and teammates. I can go on for hours about the support that my family has given me. They always support my dreams and push me to be the person I am today.

My friends and teammates show me constant love and support in my recovery. Even though I haven’t run in a year, my teammates make me feel like a part of the team. They give me a reason to keep training and pushing in physical therapy. They don’t just care about my athletic ability and fitness, but also the type of man I am becoming. Get friends and teammates who care not only about how you make them happy, but also how they can make you happy.

Proverbs 13:20 says, “Walk with the wise and become wise, for a companion of fools suffers harm.”

I have a friend of mine who will constantly complain to me about her best friends. She will go on and on to me about how they let her down or don’t do anything for her. I tell her that she needs to find new friends. Instead of living her life with people who are bound to make her angry and upset, she needs people who will be there when she needs them. Maybe you have people in your life who aren’t supportive, but are only dragging you down. Don’t be afraid to cut them off. Parasites will take down their host plants if they have too much time to grow.

Jim Rohn said, “You are the average of the 5 people you spend the most time with.”

Surround yourself with people who will make you better.

Surround yourself with people who will dream with you.

Surround yourself with people whom you want to be like someday. If you want to make yourself better, be friends with people who will help you do that. If you want friends who won’t let you down, then be friends with people who are accountable.

Be with people who will tell you what you need to hear instead of what you want to hear. Support isn’t having someone tell you that you are right about everything. You will know they truly care about you if they are willing to have the tough conversations and tell you when you are wrong. The real ones stand by your side through the highs and lows.

You are who you are because of the people in your life.

Surround yourself with support.

I appreciate you.
