Learning has no boundaries.
Knowledge has no age.
Often, we get into a complacent mindset. We subconsciously think that we solely gain knowledge from those older than us. We developed into the people that we are mainly because of our parents and the way they raised us. From a young age, we are taught to learn from and mimic our parents. This makes it easy for us to accept information from people who are older than us. We become stagnant when we only take information from those older than us and don’t tap into the source of knowledge younger than us.
A coach can learn from his or her athletes. A teacher can learn how to teach a class better by listening to the students. An investor can learn knew market trends from the techy intern. Seniors can learn from freshman.
Put your ego aside and accept that you don’t know everything. Someone else offers a new perspective that you can’t see. If someone has a great idea or new way of doing things, don’t just brush it off because they are younger. Just because they lack life experience doesn’t mean that they don’t know what they are talking about.
Those younger than you can offer new, unrestricted ideas. They don’t know boundaries. Don’t limit someone else because they don’t understand the typical restrictions of life. Sure, they can be naïve, but they can also be creative. Maybe they will help you get past something you have tried to surpass for years because they aren’t afraid to “fly into the night sky”.
In the business world, you have to constantly stay on top of new, emerging trends. Businesses fail all the time because they want to keep doing things the same way. They don’t want to accept the growth of society. They don’t want to listen to the younger people advising them on how to reach younger customers. Don’t be an old, dying business. Look for help from those around you.
Don’t limit yourself. Surround yourself with people who will make you better. It doesn’t matter how old they are.
